Department of Biopathology
The Diagnostic Laboratories play a key role role in the smooth operation of the Euromedica General Clinic of Crete, since a huge volume of laboratory analyses is carried out here every year, serving internal and external patients.
More specifically, the Biopathology Laboratory, which is equipped with automated and modern analysers and staffed with experienced and qualified scientific personnel, consists of the following departments:
Microbiology Department
In the Microbiology Department of the Euromedica General Clinic of Crete, cultures of various biological fluids in special nutrients, detection and identification of the pathogenic microorganism, antibiotic susceptibility testing (antibiogram), microscopic examinations such as urinalysis general and parasitological stool tests are performed. At the same time, blood cultures for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria are carried out here.
Biochemical Department
Biochemical tests are used to identify any malfunctions in the body, as well as metabolic disorders.
In detail, the biochemical laboratory performs blood tests for the functional control of kidney (urea, creatinine, uric acid), liver (SGOT, SGPT, g-gt, bilirubin, ALP, leukocytes), pancreas (serum and urine amylase) and bone function (calcium, phosphorus, magnesium). In addition, lipidemic profile (cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides), iron metabolism (iron, transferrin, TIBC) and determination of electrolytes of biological fluids, vitamins, acute phase proteins and cardiac markers. All of the above tests are performed using state-of-the-art analytical instruments.
Haematology
Blood tests are used to detect and monitor all types of haematologic
diseases, especially malignancies, using state-of-the-art automated analysers.
Immunology-Hormonology Department
In the laboratories of the General Clinic Mitera, serological tests are performed using state-of-the-art analysers, aiming at the detection of serological markers in the body.
Tests are also performed to monitor indicators related to hypertension, osteoporosis, thyroid, adrenal glands, allergies, autoimmune diseases and the determination of complement factors.
At the same time, tests for the detection and concentration of a number of cancer markers in the blood, such as PSA, free PSA, CEA, CA19-9, CA15-3, CA125, a-FP, can also be implemented.
